ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rain fade

Rain fade is when rain or other water in the air blocks radio signals sent from satellites. This means that sometimes when it's raining, the satellite signal we rely on for TV, phone, and other forms of communication can get weaker or not work at all. Because the water in the air blocks and weakens the radio waves, it's like the signal fade away, just like when something fades out of sight or disappears.
