Raines law

Hello! Have you ever heard of Raines Law? It's a law that was made a long time ago in New York City to stop people from drinking too much alcohol.

You see, back then, people used to drink a lot, and some people would get really drunk and cause trouble. So, the government decided to make a law to help control the drinking.

The law was called Raines Law, and it said that bars and restaurants could only serve alcohol if they also served food. This was to try and stop people from just going to the bar and getting drunk, without having a proper meal.

The law also said that these places couldn't serve alcohol on Sundays, except for hotels, which could still serve alcohol but only to their guests. This was to try and make sure that people didn't drink too much on Sundays, which was supposed to be a day of rest and relaxation.

Nowadays, Raines Law isn't really enforced anymore, and most bars and restaurants are allowed to serve alcohol without having to serve food at the same time. But it's still an important part of the history of New York City, and it shows how laws can be used to help control things like drinking and behavior.
