Rape statistics are numbers that tell us how often it happens. They tell us how many people have been raped in a certain place in a certain time. For example, the rape statistics for a country like the United States might tell us that in one year there were 100,000 cases reported. That means 100,000 people were raped, which is a lot. The statistics also tell us where the rapes occurred, so we know what places have more risk for people. Generally, the statistics show us that women and girls are more likely to experience rape than men and boys.
