ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rasā

Rasā is a Hindi word that means taste. Just like we have different tastes like sweet, sour and salty, in Hindi there are 6 different tastes called rasas. The 6 rasas are sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent.

When we eat something, our taste buds help us understand the taste of the food. If we eat something sweet, we can taste the sugar in it because it is sweet. If we eat something spicy, we can feel the heat because it is pungent.

The different rasas help us understand the taste of the food and also help us identify if the food is good for our body or not. For example, if we eat something bitter, it can help with digestion and if we eat something sweet, it can give us energy.

So, rasā is just a fancy word for taste and helps us understand the different tastes of different foods.
