Rate-determining step

Rate-determining steps, often called "rate-limiting steps," are the slowest parts of a process. Think of a process like riding a bike. Pushing the pedals is the rate-determining step, because it takes a lot of effort and takes the longest amount of time. Everything else like steering and balancing the bike is much quicker and easier.
