ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Real user monitoring

Real User Monitoring, or RUM for short, is like having a magic tool that allows people who make websites to see how their websites are doing in real time.

When you go to a website, your computer sends a message to the website's computer, asking it to show you the webpage. The website’s computer then sends an answer back to your computer, saying "okay, here's the webpage!" RUM watches all the messages going back and forth between your computer and the website's computer.

RUM can tell the people who made the website a lot of things, like how long it takes for the website to show up on your computer, how fast the website works, and how well the website looks on different kinds of devices like phones, tablets, or computers.

RUM is really helpful because it lets the people who make the website know if anything is wrong with it. So if the website is working really slow or something looks strange, the people who made the website can fix it right away, making the website work better for everybody who uses it.
