Recovering from religion is when you decide to leave or stop believing in the religion you were raised in or used to follow. It can be a hard or confusing process, because religion is usually an important part of many people's lives. To help recover from religion, some people talk to friends or family members about their beliefs and how they feel about leaving their religion behind, which can help them to understand more about the reasons why and to cope with their feelings. It is also important to be kind to yourself during this process and to take some time to research and think about what it means to you to leave a religion. Talking with a mental health professional and/or joining a faith-based support group, such as a secular or humanist group, can also be helpful.
