Reed–Solomon error correction

Reed–Solomon error correction is like a type of spell check: it helps correct errors in messages before you send them. In the same way that spell check can find typos and fix common mistakes, Reed–Solomon error correction can detect and fix errors in digital data. It works by adding extra information to the data, so if the data becomes a little messed up during transmission, the extra information tells the computer how to figure out the original data.
