ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Refugee camp

A refugee camp is a place where people who had to leave their homes because it was not safe or because of problems like war, violence or disasters go to get help.

Imagine if your house got destroyed by a big storm or a big bad monster came and scared your family away from your home. You would want to go somewhere where you can find shelter, food and clothes until you can go back home or find a new place to live.

That is what a refugee camp is like. It is like a temporary home for people who had to leave their own homes. There are lots of tents or small houses where people live with their families.

Sometimes, people in the camp get to go to school and learn new things or they can play games with other kids. There are special people who help take care of everyone in the camp and make sure everyone is healthy and safe.

Living in a refugee camp is not easy, but it is better than being out in the world with no place to go or no one to help you. Everyone in the camp is working hard to make the best of a tough situation and to keep each other safe until it is time to go back to their homes or find new ones.
