Regulation of the release of genetic modified organisms

Okay kiddo, you know how different plants and animals can have different traits, like some flowers are taller or some dogs are fluffier? Scientists can also change the traits of plants and animals by changing some of their genes, which is called genetic modification.

Sometimes people worry that these genetically modified organisms (GMOs) could be harmful to the environment, other plants and animals, or even humans. That's why there are rules to make sure GMOs are safe before they are released into the wild, kind of like a safety check.

The rules are made by the government, which is like the teacher of the whole country. They look at all of the evidence about the GMOs and decide what is safe and what isn't.

If a scientist wants to release a GMO, they have to get permission from the government first. They have to show lots of data and do lots of tests to make sure the GMO won't hurt anything.

The government also checks to make sure the GMO won't mix with other plants or animals too much. It's kind of like making sure a new kid at school won't take over everything and change how things work too much.

So basically, the government makes rules to keep everyone safe when people want to change the genes of plants and animals.
