ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Religious affiliations of United States Presidents

Okay kiddo, so you know how there are different religions all around the world, right? Well, people who become President of the United States also have their own religion or belief system. Some of them are Christian, like George Washington, who was Episcopalian, or Barack Obama, who was a Christian but didn't really go to church. Some were Unitarian, like John Quincy Adams, which means they believe in one God instead of the Christian idea of a Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And some were even not very religious at all, like Thomas Jefferson, who believed in the idea of God but didn't go to church or believe in miracles.

So basically, just like all people are different, so are the religious beliefs of the Presidents. Some may go to church a lot, some may not go at all, and some may believe in a different God or no God at all. But whatever their religion, they all promise to uphold the Constitution and serve the American people to the best of their ability.
