ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Remand (court procedure)

When someone gets in trouble with the law, they have to go to court to figure out what punishment they deserve. Sometimes the judge doesn't make a final decision on what to do with the person right away. Instead, they might send the person back to jail while they think about it some more. This is called "remand". It's like a time-out for grown-ups. The person has to go back to where they were staying before they went to court, and they have to wait for the judge to decide what to do with them next. It's like when you get sent to your room for misbehaving, but instead of your room, the person has to go back to jail.
