Replacement of loanwords in Turkish

Okay kiddo, let's first understand what a loanword is. A loanword is a word that is borrowed from another language because it is useful and does not have an equivalent or similar word in the language it is being borrowed into. In Turkey, people have been borrowing words from other languages like Arabic, Persian, and French for a long time and using them in their everyday conversations.

However, some people in Turkey think that they have been borrowing too many words and that it is starting to affect their native language. They feel that Turkish words are being replaced by these foreign words, and this makes it hard for young kids like you to understand what these words mean.

So, what the Turkish government and language experts are doing is they are trying to come up with new Turkish words to replace these loanwords. They are doing this because they believe that using more native Turkish words will help preserve and strengthen the language.

For example, instead of using the word "computer" which is borrowed from English, they came up with the Turkish word "bilgisayar" which means "information machine". They also replaced the Arabic word "telefon" for "phone" with the Turkish word "cep telefonu", which translates to "pocket phone".

By replacing these loanwords with Turkish words, people in Turkey can communicate more effectively in their native language, and they can also keep the Turkish language alive and vibrant.
