Well, a long time ago, people used to play games on things like board games and cards. But then, some smart people thought of making games on machines, and that's how the first video game was born.

At first, video games were very simple. They used simple shapes like squares and triangles to make characters move around on the screen. But as time went on, people kept making video games better and better.

In the 1970s, video games got really popular. People started playing games like Pong, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders all the time. They would go to arcades, where there were lots of games to play.

But then, something really game-changing happened. The first home video game console was invented, which means people could play games at home on their TVs. The console was called the Magnavox Odyssey, and it was one of the first video game systems invented.

Over time, more and more video game consoles were created, like the Atari 2600, the NES, and the PlayStation. Each console had different games you could play, and they kept getting better and better.

Nowadays, people play video games on all kinds of devices, like phones, tablets, and computers. The graphics are really amazing and realistic, and some games even let you play with other people from all around the world.

So that's the story of how video games started and became so popular. Pretty cool, huh?
