ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Request for information

Imagine you have a lot of questions in your mind and you want someone to answer them for you. But you don't know the answers, so you go to a grown-up or a person who knows more than you and ask them for the answers. When you do this, you're actually making a request for information.

For example, if you're curious about how to make cookies, you might ask your mom or dad for instructions. This request for information is simply your way of asking them to tell you how to make cookies.

In the same way, when someone needs information about a certain topic or thing, they can contact someone who might know more about it and request information from them. It's just a way of politely asking for help so that you can learn or solve a problem.
