Respiratory Care Week is a time when we celebrate and honor the hard work of the people who help us breathe better. These people are called respiratory therapists.
Just like we need to eat food to give our bodies energy, we also need air to help our bodies work properly. Air goes into our noses and mouths and travels down a special tube called our airway. This is where the respiratory therapists come in.
When someone is having trouble breathing or has a lung disease, respiratory therapists help them breathe better. They can use special machines that help pump air into the lungs, and also give medicine to help open up the airways.
Respiratory therapists work in hospitals, clinics, and other medical facilities. They help people of all ages, from babies to grown-ups. Respiratory Care Week is a way to say thank you to these special people who have helped so many of us breathe easier.
