Retinopathy of prematurity

Retinopathy of prematurity is when babies are born too early and their eyes haven’t finished growing yet. Something called blood vessels are important for our eyes to work properly, but in these babies, these blood vessels can grow in a way that is not very helpful. Sometimes they can grow too much or in the wrong places, which can cause big problems. If this happens, doctors might need to do a special test to check the baby’s eyes and maybe even do a surgery to help fix it. It’s very important to treat retinopathy of prematurity so that the baby can see properly when they grow up.
