ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Retinoscope

A retinoscope is a special tool that helps eye doctors check how well your eyes can focus. It's like a flashlight that shines light into your eyes and reflects off the back of your eye, which is called the retina.

The eye doctor will hold the retinoscope up close to your eye and move it around to check different parts of your eye. Then, they will use lenses to change the focus of the reflected light until it's clear and sharp. By doing this, the doctor can figure out if you need glasses or contacts to help your eyes focus better.

It may seem a little scary, but it doesn't hurt at all and only takes a few minutes. And once the doctor knows how to help you see better, you'll be able to see clearer and easier than ever before!
