ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reverse Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad was a secret network that helped enslaved people escape to freedom in the North or Canada during the 19th century. On the reverse, the reverse underground railroad was an attempt by slave owners and pro-slavery groups to recapture these escaped slaves and return them to their plantations. They did this by using force, tricks, and bribes to capture runaway slaves and return them to their enslavers. The reverse underground railroad was a cruel and terrible thing, and it made it very hard for those who sought freedom.
