Once upon a time, there was a place called Catalonia that was part of a big country called Spain. Catalonia had its own language, culture, and tradition.
In the year 1936, some people in Catalonia and other parts of Spain got really upset with the government because they thought it was not treating everyone fairly. They decided to form their own government in a place called Barcelona, which they called Revolutionary Catalonia.
In Revolutionary Catalonia, everyone was treated the same, regardless of whether they were rich or poor, boy or girl, or which language they spoke. People were given homes and jobs, and there was free healthcare and education for everyone. Workers owned the factories where they worked, instead of rich people who took all the profits. It was like a big family where everyone cared about each other.
However, some other people in Spain did not like this and wanted to stop it. They sent soldiers to fight against Revolutionary Catalonia. Even though the people of Revolutionary Catalonia fought really hard, eventually they lost the war, and the government took over again.
Today, people still remember Revolutionary Catalonia as a brave and inspiring time when everyone worked together to make things better for each other.
