ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Revolving rivers

Okay kiddo, have you ever seen a river flowing continuously? Imagine it's like a giant water slide that never stops. Sometimes, rivers flow so fast that it creates swirls in the water. These swirls are called eddies.

Now, have you ever seen a coin being spun on a table? It keeps going around and around, right? A river can do that too! When the eddy swirls around and around, it creates something called a "revolving river."

Just like the coin, the river moves in a circular motion, but it stays in the same spot. It's like the river is going down a water slide and then sneaks around the back to go down again.

These revolving rivers are really cool to watch, but you have to be careful because the swirling water can be dangerous for swimmers or boats. So, it's best to just stand back and enjoy watching the river spin around like a coin!
