ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ripstop

Ripstop is a very strong material that is made to prevent tears and rips from happening. Imagine you have a shirt that you love to wear, but it always gets little holes or rips in it when you play outside or climb trees. That's because normal fabric can't handle rough play. But ripstop fabric is different!

It's kind of like a superhero cape for your clothes. It has tiny little squares woven into the fabric that make it really hard for tears to form. If something sharp or pointy pokes your ripstop shirt, the fabric won't just split apart like normal fabric would. Instead, the little squares in the ripstop fabric will stop the tear from spreading and keep your clothes safe!

Lots of things are made with ripstop, like tents, jackets, and backpacks. They're perfect for adventure activities like camping, hiking, and climbing because they can handle lots of wear and tear. So if you're a little adventurer yourself, you might want to look for things made with ripstop to keep you and your gear safe and strong!
