ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Romer v. Evans

In Colorado, a long time ago, there were some people who wanted to make a law that said no one could have any special rights just because of who they loved. They thought that being gay or lesbian wasn't something that should be protected by the law.

But some other people didn't like that idea. They thought that everyone should be treated fairly and equally, no matter who they love. They went to court to try and stop the new law from being made, and that court case is called 'Romer v. Evans.'

The judges listened carefully to both sides, and in the end, they decided that the new law couldn't be made. They said even though some people might not agree with being gay or lesbian, they still should be treated the same under the law.

That way, everyone has a fair chance to live their life the way they want to, and be happy in their own way.
