Rotherham child sexual exploitation scandal
The Rotherham Child Sexual Exploitation Scandal was a very serious case of abuse by adults against children that happened in a town in England called Rotherham. Over a period of 16 years, from 1997 to 2013, adults had been taking young girls, some as young as 11 years old, and using them for their own sexual pleasure. These adults would threaten and hurt the girls, and would sometimes even give them drugs and alcohol in order to control them. This abuse was kept secret until it eventually came to light in 2014. As a result, many of the adults who had been involved were arrested and taken to court.
