ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rotterdam Convention

The Rotterdam Convention is a very important agreement that helps make sure that chemicals and pesticides that are not safe for people and the environment are not used. It works like a list of things that countries agree not to use, unless they are sure it won't harm people or the environment.

Think of it like a list of things your parents won't let you use or eat, unless they know it won't hurt you. Just like how your parents might not let you play with sharp things, or eat too many sweets, the Rotterdam Convention makes sure countries don't use chemicals or pesticides that could be dangerous.

This is very important because some chemicals and pesticides can make people sick, harm animals and plants, or even cause long-term damage to our planet. By agreeing not to use them unless they are safe, governments can help protect us and the environment now and in the future.
