ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rujm el-Hiri

Rujm el-Hiri is a big pile of rocks in a desert in Israel. People made it a really long time ago, when there were no computers or machines to move big rocks around. The rocks are arranged in circles, like a big bullseye, and there are other piles of rocks around the big circles. It's kind of like a big stone maze or puzzle.

There are lots of stories about why people made Rujm el-Hiri. Some people think it was a giant calendar or clock, because the big circles match up with the movements of the sun and moon in the sky. Other people think it was a place where people did important ceremonies or rituals. We don't know for sure why they made it, because no one who was alive back then is still alive now to tell us.

Today, lots of people go to visit Rujm el-Hiri to try and solve the mystery of why it was built so long ago. They look at the rocks and study how they are arranged, and try to figure out what it all means. Rujm el-Hiri is a really special and interesting place, because it reminds us how smart and creative people were, even a long time ago when they didn't have all the technology we have today.
