Rushlight

A rushlight is a special kind of light that people used to use a long time ago when they didn't have electricity. It's kind of like a candle, but instead of a waxy stick that melts as it burns, people used a dried out reed stem, like a piece of grass.

To make a rushlight, people would take a reed stem and dip it into melted animal fat or wax to coat it. Then they would light the top of the stem on fire and use it as a source of light in their home.

Rushlights weren't as bright as our modern light bulbs, but they were useful for people to be able to see in the dark or in a room without windows. They were also easy to make and affordable, so many people used them back in the olden days.

Nowadays, people don't really use rushlights anymore because we have better and safer ways of lighting our homes. But they were an important part of history and helped people in the past to see when it was dark out.
