Russian imperialism is when Russia tried to take over other countries and make them part of the Russian Empire. This started in the 1700s when Tsar Peter the Great wanted to make Russia a powerful country by taking parts of nearby countries and making them part of his kingdom. Russia kept trying to take over more land, but most of their attempts were stopped by other countries such as Britain, France and the United States. In the late 1800s, Russia was one of the most powerful empires in Europe and continued to expand until it was forced to give up its land after World War One.
