ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rutaceae

Rutaceae is a big plant family with lots of different plants in it. You might know some of these plants, like oranges and lemons. All of the plants in this family have some things in common, like their leaves and flowers.

The leaves of Rutaceae plants are usually pretty simple – that means they don’t have a lot of fancy shapes or bumps on them. Many of them are also pretty small compared to other kinds of plant leaves. The flowers of Rutaceae plants are also pretty special. They usually have four or five petals (that’s the part of the flower that’s usually colorful, like on a rose or a daisy), and they often make a really sweet smell.

Some other plants you might know that are in the Rutaceae family include grapefruits, limes, and tangerines. These plants are all fruit trees, which means they grow yummy things that we can eat. One thing all those fruits have in common is that they’re all really high in Vitamin C, which is good for us!

So, to sum it up, Rutaceae is a big plant family with lots of different kinds of plants in it. Some members of this family are healthy fruits that taste really good!
