S. D. Warren Paper Mill

Okay kiddo, there was a big place called the S.D. Warren Paper Mill where they made paper. Think of it like a really big machine that takes in trees and turns them into paper. It was in a place called Westbrook, Maine and it had been there for a really long time.

But one day, some people noticed that the paper mill was causing some problems. The water that came out of the mill was dirty and had chemicals in it. This was making the fish and other animals in the river sick. And sometimes, the air around the mill smelled really bad.

So some grown-ups got together and decided to try to make the paper mill cleaner. They made some rules and told the people who owned the mill that they had to follow them. These rules were called regulations.

The people who owned the paper mill didn't really want to follow the regulations at first, because it would cost them a lot of money to make their machines clean. But they eventually realized it was important to keep the environment healthy, too. So they made changes to their machines and made sure they were following the regulations.

And that's the story of the S.D. Warren Paper Mill – it was a place where they made paper, but they had to make some changes to keep the environment clean and healthy for everyone.
