ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

SUSY

Okay kiddo, have you ever heard of superheroes who have powers to be in two places at once or become invisible? Susy, or Supersymmetry, is a theory in science that is just like a superpower for particles.

You know how everything around us is made up of tiny things called atoms, right? Inside atoms, we have even tinier particles called quarks and electrons. Scientists have discovered that every particle has a partner particle that is just like it, but with some differences. These partner particles are called supersymmetric particles or "sparticles" for short.

Now, why are these sparticles so special? Well, they act like superheroes because they help explain some mysteries that other theories in science cannot explain. One mystery is why particles have different masses. With Susy, we believe that every particle has a sparticle partner with a different mass.

Susy can also help us understand more about dark matter, which is a mysterious substance that fills up the universe but we cannot see it. Scientists think that sparticles might also be part of dark matter!

Now, Susy hasn't been proven yet, but scientists all over the world are working hard to try and find evidence for it. If it's true, it could change the way we understand the universe forever. Pretty cool, huh?
