ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sacco and Vanzetti

Okay kiddo, do you know what a court is? It's a place where people go when they have a problem they can't solve on their own. And sometimes, the government gets involved and a judge has to decide who is right and who is wrong.

Sacco and Vanzetti were two men who went to court a very long time ago, in the 1920s, in America. They were accused of doing something bad - of stealing a lot of money and shooting two people who were trying to stop them. It was a very big deal because a lot of people were afraid of immigrants, which is what Sacco and Vanzetti were. They were from Italy and they had come to America to try to make a better life for themselves.

But some people didn't like that they were different and they thought they were probably guilty of the crime. They put them on trial and even though a lot of people thought they were innocent, they were still found guilty and sentenced to death. A lot of people didn't think it was fair and they protested, but Sacco and Vanzetti were still executed.

Today, many people think that they weren't actually guilty and that they were put on trial because of discrimination - because they were different from most of the people in America at the time. So, it's an important reminder that we shouldn't judge people based on where they come from or what they look like, and everyone deserves a fair trial no matter who they are.
