Saint Nicholas (European folklore)
Okay, so there's this guy named Saint Nicholas who was a very kind and generous man who lived a long time ago in Europe. He loved helping people and making them happy, especially children.
One famous story about him is that he would secretly put coins in the shoes of poor children who left them out for him. This was a surprise and made the kids very happy.
As time went on, people started celebrating Saint Nicholas' kind deeds by making him into a magical figure who would visit on a special day each year, usually December 6th. He would bring gifts and treats for good children and leave them in their stockings or shoes.
Eventually, this tradition turned into what we now know as Santa Claus, but Saint Nicholas is still remembered for his kind and giving spirit.
