ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Salamander

A salamander is a kind of animal that looks like a long, slimy lizard with four legs. Salamanders are special because they can do something that most other animals can't: they can regrow their body parts if they get hurt!

Salamanders like to live in wet places, like ponds, rivers, and swamps. They come in lots of different colors, such as brown, black, green, and even bright orange and yellow. Some types of salamanders have spots or stripes on their bodies, too.

Salamanders eat all kinds of things, like insects, worms, and even other smaller salamanders or fish! Some salamanders have long tongues that they use to catch their food, while others just open their mouths and suck their food in.

When a salamander is born, they look kind of like a tadpole with legs. As they grow up, they start to look more like a regular salamander. And if a salamander loses a leg or tail, don't worry! They can grow it back, kind of like how you can grow a new plant from a seed.

So, in summary, salamanders are slimy, lizard-like creatures that come in lots of different colors and can live in wet places. They are special because they can regrow their body parts if they get hurt. Salamanders eat insects and other creatures, and can grow up to be pretty big!
