Saltbox house

A saltbox house is like a regular house, but it has a special shape that makes it look different. Imagine drawing a rectangle, and then drawing a triangle on top of one of the short sides. That’s what a saltbox house looks like! The triangle part is called the roof, and it slopes down towards the ground.

Saltbox houses were first built a long time ago, when people didn’t have the modern technology we have today. They were usually made out of wood and had a big chimney in the middle for a fireplace. The roof was sloped like that so that snow and rain would slide off easily.

People still build saltbox houses today, but they usually use different materials like brick or stone. Some people even make saltbox-style birdhouses or dollhouses!
