In France, people who love and want to marry someone of the same gender can do so now! Usually, when people get married, they ask the government to recognize their marriage and give them a legal document called a marriage certificate. This certificate helps them prove to others that they are married, and it also gives them certain legal rights, like the right to make decisions for each other if one of them gets sick or hurt.
Until recently, only people who wanted to marry someone of a different gender (a man marrying a woman or a woman marrying a man) could get married in France. But in 2013, the French government decided that people who loved someone of the same gender should also be able to get married if they wanted to. The law that allowed this to happen is called the "Marriage for All" law.
Now, if two people of the same gender in France want to get married, they can go to a special office called a city hall and ask to get married. They'll need to bring some important documents with them, like copies of their birth certificates and passports. They'll also need to fill out some forms and answer some questions about themselves and their relationship.
If everything checks out, a government official called a marriage officer will perform the wedding ceremony right there at the city hall. After the ceremony, they'll sign the marriage certificate, which makes the marriage official and legal.
There are still some people in France who don't think that same-sex couples should be allowed to get married, but the "Marriage for All" law was passed because many people believe that everyone should have the right to marry the person they love, no matter what gender they are.
