ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

San Remo conference

The San Remo Conference was a meeting where important people from different countries came together to talk about what should happen after World War I. It was like a big meeting between grown-ups to decide what to do next.

Basically, after the war, there were a lot of countries that needed some changes to be made to their borders and territories. The people in charge of these countries wanted to make sure that the changes were fair and equal for everyone involved. This is why they held the San Remo Conference.

At the conference, there were representatives from Britain, France, Italy, and Japan. They talked about dividing up the territory that used to be a part of the Ottoman Empire, which had been defeated in the war. They wanted to make sure that each country got a fair share of this land.

They also talked about creating a new country for the Jewish people in what is now Israel. This was called the Balfour Declaration and it basically said that the Jewish people should have a home of their own.

So, in short, the San Remo Conference was a big meeting where important people from different countries talked about dividing up territory from the defeated Ottoman Empire and creating a new country for the Jewish people.
