Sand is made of tiny grains that come from rocks. These grains are so small that you can't see them with your eyes, but you can feel them when you touch the sand. All different kinds of rocks can make sand, like granite and quartz. The sand on beaches usually has grains of quartz, because quartz is strong and doesn't break down as easily as other rocks.
