Sanjak

A sanjak is like a big piece of land that was part of a bigger country a long time ago. It's like when you cut a pizza into slices, but your slice is still part of the whole pizza. Sanjaks were used a long time ago by the Ottoman Empire, which was a big country that ruled over lots of smaller countries. The Ottomans would divide their big countries into sanjaks so they could control them more easily. People who lived in a sanjak had to follow the rules of the Ottoman Empire, but they also had some of their own rules that were specific to their area. Nowadays, sanjaks aren't really used anymore, but they still exist in some countries as historical regions.
