ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Sarcopenia

Sarcopenia is when our muscles become weaker and smaller because we are getting older. When we are young, our muscles are strong and big, but as we age, our muscles don't work as well as they used to. This can make it hard to do things like walking, lifting things or even standing up.

Imagine if you have a toy that you really love playing with. You play with it every day and it works perfectly. But, after a long time of playing with it, it starts to get a little worn out and maybe it doesn't work as well as it used to. This is kind of what happens to our muscles when we age. They get a little bit worn out and they don't work as well as they used to.

Sarcopenia can happen to everyone as they get older, but there are some things we can do to help prevent it. Exercise is one of the best things we can do to keep our muscles strong and healthy. Eating healthy foods like fruits, vegetables and protein can also help keep our muscles in good shape.

So, even though our bodies might be getting older, we can still keep our muscles strong and healthy by exercising and eating well!
