Sashiko

Sashiko is a type of sewing that comes from Japan. It's very special because it uses a simple running stitch to make beautiful designs on fabric. Imagine you have a piece of cloth that you want to make pretty. With sashiko, you make neat and tidy lines of little stitches (like when you tie your shoelaces) that go up and down, back and forth, like a maze. The stitches might make a picture of flowers, waves, or other patterns. People have been doing sashiko for a really, really long time, and they often use different shades of blue thread on white fabric to make it look icy, like snow. It's not like regular sewing that can be quick. Sashiko takes time and patience, but the end result is always beautiful, cozy, and special!
