Well kiddo, a long, long time ago, there were a group of people called the Vikings who lived in a place called Scandinavia. They were adventurous and traveled by boat to other places to see what was there.
One of the places they went to was Scotland, which was divided into different parts at the time. The Vikings took over some of these parts and made them their own. This area they controlled was called Scandinavian Scotland.
The Vikings were known for their good ship-building skills, and they used their ships to get to Scotland. When they arrived, they started farming and fishing to live there. They were also known for their bravery in battle, so they could defend their land from others who tried to take it from them.
Because the Vikings were so skillful, they were able to create their own settlements in Scotland. These were little towns they built themselves, with their own houses and buildings, and they even had their own language.
Over time, the Vikings became more and more like the Scottish people who lived around them. They started to adopt some of their customs and ways of life, so the differences between the two groups became less and less noticeable.
So, even though it's been a long time since the Vikings were in Scotland, their influence is still visible today in some of the words we use and the stories we tell. Pretty cool, huh?
