Scatterplot smoothing

Okay, so imagine we have a bunch of dots on a piece of paper, and each dot represents a number. Now, if we tried to connect all those dots with a line, it might be kind of bumpy and not very smooth. Scatterplot smoothing is like using a special tool to make that line smoother by making it go through the dots in a way that looks nice and curved.

It's kind of like how you might draw a line between your freckles on your arm, but instead of drawing straight lines, you draw a line that curves smoothly between them. Scatterplot smoothing is like making the line that connects the dots on the paper curve smoothly, too.
