Schiffskinder

Schiffskinder is a German word that means "ship children." These are children who were born or raised on ships, usually cargo ships or other types of vessels that travel long distances across the ocean.

Imagine being on a big boat that moves across the water and never stops for days, weeks, or even months. That is the kind of ship that Schiffskinder live on. They may have a room or a small space on the ship that they share with their family or other ship workers. They also have access to different parts of the ship, including the deck and sometimes even the engine room.

Because they spend so much time on the ship, Schiffskinder learn how to live and work on board. They see different parts of the world, taste new foods, and meet different people as the ship travels from one port to another. They also learn how to be independent and take care of themselves, as well as how to help out with the work on the ship.

Growing up on a ship can be exciting, but it can also be challenging. Schiffskinder may miss out on some things that kids who live on land take for granted, such as spending time with friends and family who are not on the ship or going to school regularly. They may have to do their schoolwork on board or take online classes.

Despite these challenges, many Schiffskinder enjoy their unique way of life and develop a deep connection to the ocean and the ships that they call home.
