ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Schoch line

Okay, so imagine you have a big pile of sand. You know that sand is made up of tiny grains, and each grain is different in shape and size. Now, let's say you make a line in that pile of sand. That line is called the "schoch line."

The schoch line is important because it helps scientists study how the sand has moved and changed over time. By looking at the shape and size of the grains on one side of the line compared to the other side, they can figure out which way the sand has been transported and how much it has been eroded.

Basically, the schoch line is like a timeline for the sand. It tells us what has happened to it over time and how it got to where it is now. And by studying the schoch line, scientists can learn a lot about the Earth and how it has changed over millions of years.
