ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Schrödinger picture

Imagine you have a box with a cute kitty inside. You cannot see the kitty because the box is closed. You don't know if it's alive or dead.

The Schrödinger picture is like looking at the box without opening it. You imagine the kitty is in a state of being both alive and dead at the same time until you open the box and find out for sure.

In physics, this "box" is a system that we want to understand, like an atom or a molecule. The Schrödinger picture helps us imagine all the different possible states the system can be in, before we measure it (or open the box).

The picture helps us make calculations to predict the future behaviour of the system, based on all the possible states it could be in. It's like a map that helps us navigate the strange and unpredictable world of quantum physics.
