Schwerbelastungskörper

Schwerbelastungskörper is a very big and heavy thing that was built a long time ago in Germany. It looks like a giant concrete cylinder that is almost as tall as a building!

People built it to test the ground and see if it was strong enough to hold up really heavy things, like big buildings or bridges. They wanted to make sure the ground would not break or sink down if they put something really heavy on top of it.

To test the ground, they put the Schwerbelastungskörper on top of it and piled lots of heavy weights on top of the cylinder. These weights were so heavy that they weighed as much as more than one hundred elephants!

The scientists could then see how much the ground underneath the Schwerbelastungskörper moved or sank down. They used all of this information to make sure the ground was strong enough to hold up the big things they wanted to build.

So, in short, Schwerbelastungskörper is a big, heavy cylinder that was used to test if the ground could hold up really heavy things.
