ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scorpius–Centaurus association

Imagine a big group of stars that are all friends and like to hang out together. This group is called the Scorpius-Centaurus Association. They live in a part of space that is called a stellar nursery, which is like a big playground for stars.

This group of stars is really special because they are all about the same age - they are like a group of kindergarteners who started school at the same time. They were formed from the same cloud of gas and dust and they grew up together.

Even though they are friends, they also like to play a lot of pranks on each other. Sometimes they move really close together and sometimes they fly really far apart. But no matter what, they always stay together in their special group.

Scientists like to study this group of stars because they can learn a lot about how stars grow and change over time. It's kind of like how teachers like to study how kids develop and learn as they get older.

So, the Scorpius-Centaurus Association is just a big group of stars that are about the same age and like to hang out together in a special part of space.
