ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Scots law

Scots law is the way people in Scotland follow rules and laws. It's like a big rulebook that everyone has to follow to keep things fair for everyone.

Just like at school, we have rules to keep everyone safe and happy. In the same way, Scots law has rules that keep people in Scotland safe and happy too. These rules are made by people who have studied law and they help to make sure everyone is treated fairly.

Scots law covers lots of different things, like how people can buy and sell things, how to make a contract, and even how people can get married or divorced. It's a bit like having a big instruction manual that tells us what to do in different situations.

If someone does something wrong, Scots law helps to decide what should happen next. For example, if someone steals a toy, the law might say they have to give it back and say sorry. If someone hurts someone else, the law might say they have to pay for the doctor to make the person better.

So, Scots law helps to keep people safe and happy in Scotland, just like rules help to keep us safe and happy at school!
