Scraper (archaeology)

Imagine you are playing with sand on a beach, trying to build a sandcastle. Sometimes you need to smooth out the sand, so you use your hands to scrape the sand and make it even.

In archaeology, researchers sometimes need to "smooth out" the dirt and sediment in order to see what's underneath. They use special tools called scrapers to carefully remove layers of soil and sediment, revealing artifacts or structures that may be buried underneath.

These scrapers can vary in size and shape, but they all serve the same purpose. Think of it like using a spoon to scoop out ice cream, but instead of ice cream it's dirt and instead of a spoon it's a specially designed tool.

So just like you used your hands to smooth out the sand, archaeologists use scrapers to carefully excavate sites and uncover hidden treasures from the past.
